Sustainable and Modular Construction Still Hot for 2013A recent article on Construction Digital indicates that both sustainable building and modular construction remain trends with traction. Four months into 2013, these trends are two of the driving forces behind the improving construction industry.

Green and Natural

The use of sustainable building materials and construction techniques continue to be important components of construction projects in the U.S. and around the world. A recent report by Navigant Research indicates that the market demand for green building materials will increase from $116 billion this year to a projected $254 billion in 2020.

Another particularly promising green building strategy is biomimicry. This is where designers incorporate natural and biological patterns throughout architectural and engineering designs, from the building exterior to the HVAC ventilation.

Sustainability of Modular Construction

Back in 2011, modular was predicted as a strong, emerging trend for 2012. That prediction has carried over into 2013. The benefits of modular over traditional construction continue to appeal to designers and developers of both commercial and residential projects. Not surprisingly, sustainability is a strong selling point for modular construction projects. But, in the end, time and cost efficiency remain of the utmost importance as the construction industry maintains its upward trajectory.
